I believe for the 1.4 8v non VVT, its straight forward enough with obvious timing mark on the CAM sprocket. The VVT CAM sprocket looks totally different, I can see many marks, I've been trying to time the engine with cylinder 1 piston at TDC, followed by trying to line up the CAM with cylinder 1 exhaust valve to be the next to open as the Shaft

#1 Hi All, Firstly, I have done a search and read through a lot of threads, however it was hard to find some due to the fact ' and '8v' are both too short for the search criteria. Anyway, I was wondering if somebody can let me know what sort of performance increase they (or someone you know) have had after tuning the 8v. Having a few bevis last night and just thought if im gonna keep the car 3 years, im gonna have some fun with it. I think i'm gonna start with a full exhaust, exhaust UK have quoted me £295 for full from the manifold. I'm hoping to get it to around 90bhp. I know it would be easier to get the 16v but that is not an option and want to have some fun with it. I mean if I died tomorrow, I would rather die knowing i'v remapped by 8v punto..... Thanks in advance! Sam #2 some people have remapped a 8v so why not go for it pal the gains might be minimal buts its your car so have some fun with it. #3 Well i was speaking to my mate and he said you will notice a difference even as small as 5 bhp #4 To get power out of an N/A you need to get more fuel into the engine (and enough air to go with it) so you need a good cold air feed to an enclosed air filter, you want an engine back exhaust including manifold. That sorts out the air side. Well exhaust is probably 300 for a cat back, double that for an engine back. An air filter will cost between 100-200 depending on the design, if you can get a GSR? or make your own out of silicone hoses like me. For under 200 quid you should go for one of these, then when you get a bit of extra cash get the rest of your exhaust system done: Or this: One of these should fit, depending on the layout of the manifold studs on your cylinder head, I know these should fit as John Ashley told me people have successfuly fitted these to Grande Puntos 4-2-1 style manifolds keep torque at the lower rpm comapred to 4-1 manifolds so a 4-2-1 should be a good improvement for your 8 valver It's not a full system and can be taken out and swapped for your original one for MOT purposes in 15 minutes. A manifold like one of those will give you more gains over a manifold back for sure, and at a slightly cheaper price Then look at getting yourself an induction kit with cold air ducting up to it and a bigger bore throttle body. Remap it after that I think you could probably reach 90bhp. After that if you're going to cam it I would port/polish the head first and finish of the rest of the exhaust system from the manifold back, and then re-remap it. Maybe after that you could hit 100-110. But it is a 8v and though all these things are possible on your engine, be wary of the gains you'll get, have fun with it though - it's your car don't so let anyone hold you back! #18 excellent, thank you for those links and info! EDIT: okay, say I buy one of these, will it be a straight swap or will I have to modify to fit Sam First off, it's hard to tell from the pictures, but look at the stud holes on each of the 2 manifolds (the 8v manifold stud hole pattern has a more rectangular layout whereas the 16v is sort of trapezoid) and comapre them to the stud pattern on your car, if they look similar you're in with a good shout. Like I said I was told off the guy who made the manifolds that it fitted the 8v/16v Grandes but if you want clarification yourself give him a tinkle John Ashley gave me a full money back guarentee so no worries if it didn't work It did work anyways but was still a good thing to have and I'm sure he'd do the same for you mate. No you wont have to change the rest of your exhaust. What he done for me was supply an extra section of pipe with flanges welded to it so it could be cut/chaped to fit between my new manifold and mid section, only 20 quid for the extra piece Check the angle of your flanges on your mid section and existing manifold, if they are not the same angle as any of the the above then I'm sure they can be cut off and either re-welded in a new position or new ones welded on in the right position, small payoff for a sweet engine upgrade! In fact, sack that story - if you're looking at getting a full system from somewhere anyway then you are ditching your old system, so they would be able to build the system up to your new manifold - if you fitted one of the above - then they would weld on a flange to match your new manifolds flange, you get me? Because I've still got my OEM mid section I've got the pain-in-the-arse job of trying to make my manifold fit - fits the head just doesn't reach my mid section - whereas if you're getting a new full system it will be made to fit - problem solved! So exhaust UK quoted 300 for full system, is that including a manifold? If not I recommend fitting a manifold first then going to them and telling them to build a system around it to fit your manifold, much easier that way As for your throttle body, I wish I still had my 8v GP to check I'll scan the internet and see what like they are and if there's others (bigger ones) that will fit. Exhaust comes first though, if you bring more air into the equation without modilying the exhaust you'll only succeed in increasing the back pressure in the exhaust system which is brings a drawback in performance. The idea behind a performance exhaust is to make it as free-flowing as possible, so as the higher volume of air being brought into the engine has a better passage out and away from the engine, allowing you to burn more air/fuel mix and yes, make more POWER :devil:
